The terms, in plain English.
Last updated 6 October 2026Curious is run by Josxph Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15145694), trading as Curious. These terms cover this website and the Curious service: the visitor guide, the admin portal, Live Labels, Insights, Guide Pass and Appeals.
1. The service
Curious lets your site publish a visitor guide that visitors open by scanning a QR code, together with the tools to manage it and see how it is used. We host it, keep it running and improve it. Features differ by plan; the current plans and what each includes are on the pricing page.
2. Your account and your plan
- You subscribe to a plan and pay monthly by card, or switch on Guide Pass instead (section 3). Payments are taken by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.
- You pay the price shown on the pricing page. If we change a plan's price, we tell you by e-mail at least 30 days before it applies to you, so you can change plan or cancel first.
- There is no minimum term. You can cancel at any time from the "Manage your subscription" link in your portal. Access continues to the end of the month you have paid for, and nothing further is charged.
- You are responsible for the people you give portal access to and for keeping your sign-in details safe.
3. Guide Pass
Guide Pass is a way to run Curious with no monthly fee, where your visitors pay instead. While it is on:
- You pay us no monthly fee and get the features of the Accelerate plan. You cannot run a monthly plan at the same time: switching Guide Pass on ends your plan’s subscription.
- Your visitors can buy a pass to the full guide. Without one they see each animal’s photo, common name, scientific name and conservation status. Live Labels always show the full content.
- You set the price of a pass, at least £3. A pass lasts 12 months from the day it is bought, on the phone it was bought on, or on another phone using its code.
- Passes are sold through your own Stripe account, connected to Curious, under Stripe’s terms. You are the seller: the sale, the receipt, VAT, refunds and disputes are yours.
- Our fee is 25% of the price of each pass, taken by Stripe at the moment of sale. Stripe’s card fee comes out of your share. Our fee is not returned if you refund a pass or a visitor disputes the payment: it pays for selling through Curious.
- If we change our fee or the lowest pass price, we tell you by e-mail at least 30 days before it applies to you.
- You can switch Guide Pass off at any time and choose a plan; the whole guide is then free to every visitor. If you switch it off or leave Curious while passes are still running, any refunds to visitors are yours to decide.
4. Appeals
Appeals let your visitors donate to a cause you name, from the guide. If you run one:
- Donations are taken through your own Stripe account, connected to Curious, under Stripe’s terms. You receive the money, and the receipt, refunds and disputes are yours. Stripe’s card fee comes out of each donation.
- We take no share of donations.
- You use the money for the cause the appeal describes, and you say truthfully who it is for. If you raise money for a charity, any agreement with that charity, and anything the law requires you to tell donors, are yours to arrange.
- The total visitors see counts the donations Stripe confirms, less refunds, plus any money raised elsewhere that you add. Amounts you add must be true.
- You can end an appeal or switch it off at any time. Money already given stays in your account.
5. Your content
- Everything you put into Curious, your photographs, words, audio, films, quizzes and talk and feed times, stays yours. You give us permission to store it, display it to your visitors and back it up, which is what we need to run the service and nothing more.
- You confirm you have the right to use what you upload, including photographs of your animals and any third-party images.
- If you leave, tell us and we will send you your content. We delete it from our systems within 90 days of your subscription ending.
6. Fair use
Unlimited exhibits and species means exactly that for a zoo or an aquarium. It does not mean using Curious for anything other than your own sites, reselling it, or publishing material that is unlawful or harmful. We may suspend an account that does.
7. Availability
Curious runs on Cloudflare's global network and we aim for it to be available all the time. We do not promise a specific uptime and there is no service credit, but we tell you about planned work in advance, and we answer e-mails about problems on the same working day.
8. Visitor data
Your visitors' data is processed on your behalf as set out in our privacy policy. For that data you are the controller and we are your processor; we act on your instructions and keep it within the service.
9. Liability
We are liable for what the law says we cannot exclude, such as death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud. Beyond that, our total liability to you for anything arising out of the service in any twelve-month period is limited to the fees you paid us in that period. We are not liable for lost profits, lost visitors or lost data where you have not kept your own copies of what you uploaded.
10. Changes and law
We may update these terms as the service grows; we tell you by e-mail and the date at the top changes. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales and its courts.
